What is coming in 2014?
2014 will be a busy year regarding waste!
The European Commission is currently in the process of reviewing the targets set by the European Waste Framework Directive and the Packaging Waste Directive. This should lead to interesting negotiations and definitely have an impact on regions and cities, in charge of concretely managing waste.
On 14 May, an R4R interregional training session will take place in Graz, Austria, focusing on waste collection and recycling good practices. The agenda will be available soon on the R4R website but in the meantime you can already save the date.
The winners of the 2013 edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) will be rewarded during a ceremony held in Rome, following an international conference capitalising on European waste projects and 20 years of communication around waste and resources. On the following day, May 23rd, ACR+ will hold its General Assembly celebrating its 20 years of activities promoting good practices in waste and resources management.
The 2014 edition of the EWWR will take place between 22 and 30 November, still covering awareness raising actions on the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) and also with a special focus on food waste prevention.
Other R4R partners will hold regional events, to disseminate the project's results, in particular OVAM, Zagreb and the Ilfov County Council. ACR+ will also organise a dissemination event in Brussels. The final conference of the R4R project will take place in Sofia at the
end of the year. This closing event will give the oportunity to share
the results of the project after 3 years of successful exchanges and
Other activities will take place on waste issues, for instance, the Green Week to take place from 2 to 6 June with a strong focus on resources and waste.
The coming European elections will also definitely have an impact on future waste and resources policy since the new Members of the European Parliament will have an essential role in the decision-making process of coming legistation. Also important in terms of political impulse, the renewal of the European Commissioners, this year as well.
Hapy new year 2014!
