Glass packaging growth helps industry to weather long‐winded crisis
Good news for the glass packaging industry: according to a press release, published by the European container Glass Federation (FEVE) on December 12, 2012, glass packaging production volumes in Europe grew by 1.9% in the first half of 2012. The press release perceived these results, taking into account the earlier positive trends in 2011, as a positive sign for the stability and future prosperity of the European container glass sector, notwithstanding the current economic and financial crisis across Europe.
Nevertheless, in view of rising costs and delocalisation risks, Stefan Jaenecke, President of FEVE, expressed the need for a European legislative and economic framework that encourages the container glass industry to look beyond short term results and fix long-term and sustainably sound objectives.
